Kenya Partners Volunteer- Nakuru

Greg, Jeff, & I are volunteering for 10 days at the schools & hospital/clinic in Nakuru. What an experience of a lifetime. Such a privilege to work with the teachers & students. We spent 8 days at the boarding school. 5 of our days were school break & kids there do not have homes to go to. The children were so loving, fun, and bright. We played games, learned Pickleball& had mini tournaments. We played with the younger children- cartwheel, hand stands, somersaults. Tag, soccer, wheelbarrow races, gunny sack races. Drawing/art classes- they taught me😄. Dancing / omg – these kids have rhythm! Music& singing. The kids learn the basics and also French, tech classes. The older children help the younger children. And these kids – even at 4-5 years old are so self sufficient—doing their own laundry – no machines—& airing out their mattresses every Saturday. They take a home science class & learn cooking, sewing, & home tasks. The school has a farm; cattle, pigs, chickens….large gardens. We all pitched in working in kitchen- Jeff is a superstar in kitchen & farm. My biggest accomplishment is giving hugs to the adorable- fun children. If you ever donate clothing & wonder where it goes ….to 3rd world countries….good kids are wearing it every day! …outside of classes – they all have school uniforms. We had so much fun teaching all the children pickleball – ages 5-18 played. We sponsored a special meal with pasta & orange drink- a big hit. Then later we served ice cream. A significant number of these children – had never had ice cream. OMG. They were so grateful.

The next night we sponsored movie night- kids chose Puss & Boots —we had popcorn & orange drink. Huge thanks to Jeff / he popped popcorn for 200 kids 😳😳😄 everyone was sooo thankful.

…then we went to school in Squatter’s Hill….next story. And this really fills in the gaps for many of these children’s stories.
