Robben Island & CT Sky Line

Hiking Camino de Santiago and beyond!

Cape Town has over 5 million inhabitants and yet the neighborhood we are in is sandwiched between the bay & Signal Hill / so the growth is contained. Looking at the photo from the water- there is just a ribbon of homes & business. Don’t let this fool you / it is a huge city! We are staying in Green Point which has cafes, coffee shops – a fav Italian deli and is very vibrant & walkable. There are large beautiful homes, apartments& B&Bs. I am writing this blog sitting poolside with the bay, Robben Island & soccer stadium in my view. We went on a walking tour & saw some of the historic neighborhoods – some beautiful – some rougher. We toured Robben Island & our guide was a former inmate of this island prison. Incarcerated as a political prisoner at 22. His insight is amazing. Nelson Mandela’s cell is about 8×10 and he slept on a mat – like thin carpet on a concrete cold floor for years. As we left the harbor we noted the clean water of Cape Town bay- good job Cape Town! The seals frolicking love it too!

Cape Town South Africa/ at long last we arrived! We were told that the natural beauty of this city is spectacular and it fully lives up to that reputation. We are staying in Green Point – close to city center in a great neighborhood. Our view is of the bay & Robben Island in distance. Behind us is Signal Hill. Cafes, coffee shops, delis and a great walking path along the water. Love it! We also have a view of the stadium built for the World Cup.
Whether in Chile or Argentina or Uruguay-cemeteries are a big deal.

We took an amazing walking tour of the city and here are a few of the highlights

A few more photos of our neighborhood. A lovely cathedral – with a doggy welcome! It is South America!

Buenos Aires has some amazing restaurants and they love their beef! The food is amazing g and from a lovely outdoor cafe to a rowdy-Parilla-bbq restaurant we had great experiences.

From an old bar to fun street art in Buenos Aires.
