Abel Tasman is a treasure of a national park. Fabulous marine reserves coupled with park land. We saw our first penguin out fishing for lunch and a fabulous eco-tour of the area

The northwest corner of South Island has some unsung treasures. Crazy-pancake rock structures. Beautiful shorelines & pounding surf.

The west coast glaciers are not only gorgeous the are is incredibly remote. There are very few ways to make a living.

The west coast of The southern island of NZ is so ruggedly beautiful – remote and wonderful.
Let’s let the photos tell the story

We loved hiking Rob Roy Glacier. And, the 7 fords of the stream were memorable. The livestock happy. And changing the flat for a fellow intrepid traveller rewarding. A few more photos from Rob Roy near Wanaka.

Just when you think it can’t get any better – the sun comes out for 2 days in the mountain town of Wanaka.
A beautiful mountain town right on the edge of a lake with spectacular glaciers near by.
Loved this town. Great hikes. beautiful scenery. Fun restaurants. Pool tables. Guinness on tap.

The waterfalls on the road leading to Milford Sound were spectacular. Most were gone or greatly diminished on our drive out about 5 hours later.

Crazy Beautiful Waterfalls on the Boat Ride Through Milford Sound. These waterfalls are fed by the glaciers.

The natural beauty on display was phenomenal.
The red beech tree on the shore is the natural color – no filtering – spectacular.

Weather- was the defining factor for this section of our trip. Rain was forecasted for all – except 1 day- we made certain we were in Te Anau and booked on a boat tour of the sound.
We lucked out.
We woke up early, leaving our hostel at 6:00a – in time to see the full moon rise over the water. Very fortunate!
It had rained all night – which meant the numerous waterfalls on the drive in were rocking! Fabulous.
