Medellin – Arvi National Park

One has got to love travelling in Colombia. You can stay in the city – go to the Metro / take it North – transfer to a city line that is a gondola- ride it 3 stops. Then take another gondola to a national park! Crazy! Where else can you find a beautiful national park sanctuary so close to the city using their public transportation. It is a real treat & present.

Each country has their way of doing National parks. This park has stunning tropical beauty. Wonderful trails. Nice visitor center and guided tours are offered. We took a trail through beautiful tropical forest. And then we ended up venturing off the trail and wandering through people s driveways. Definitely off route😳. We hear angry dogs barking and we know we are not where we should be. I see a Blessed Mary shrine & make multiple signs of the cross. And then we hear a car & find the road. Whew! Whew! Whew! We are so relieved. Strangers are not appreciated in remote parts of the country.

We find a little cafe and have an amazing ‘typical meal’ . Btw: three of us share 1 meal- portions are huge! The home style cooking is hearty & fabulous.

Did I mention the ever present police force in his hamlet. We felt safe.

In Medellin the poor live on the steeply pitched hillsides. There are almost no cars. The homes are poor. Creativity is expressed in street art – found on walls & roofs.
